SAP, Air Testing & Sound Testing for new-builds
Meeting BB93 acoustic design standards for new school buildings and extensions.
Since 2003, Part E of the Building Regulations refers to Section 1 of Building Bulletin 93 (BB93), requiring a construction standard that takes into account acoustics in new school buildings. New school buildings, change-of-use projects and extensions fall within the Building Regulations and must be checked by Building Control Bodies. This applies only in England and Wales.
Hilsdon Holmes has a team of experienced consultants who have worked on acoustic design specifications for school classrooms, providing advice and support throughout the project. We recommend consultation begins early to ensure BB93 requirements are met successfully.
Section 2 covers noise control; Section 3 covers insulation from external noise and sound insulation between rooms; Section 4 covers the design of rooms for speech; Section 5 covers the design of rooms for music; Section 6 covers acoustic design and equipment for pupils with special hearing requirements. Our UKAS accredited engineers carry out pre-completion tests measuring ambient noise levels, reverberation time and sound insulation between classrooms.
If you are working on a new school build you will probably also require a BREEAM Assessment. Our experienced BREEAM Assessment team can help ensure your credits are maximised in the Hea 13 (Acoustic Performance) and Pol 8 (Noise Attenuation) categories.
